Exhibition “Defiant Specimens” Cindy Stelmackowich & Susan Feindel, 14 Oct 2016, Halifax-Canada

Opening reception Friday, October 14, 5-7 p.m.

Both artists in attendance

Cindy Stelmackowich & Susan Feindel

Susan Feindel, Lobster Eggs (detail), watercolour, rabbit skin glue, 11″ x 31″
Cindy Stelmackowich, Sensorium series: Stomach (detail), glass beads, marble paper, 29″ x 23″

Defiant Specimens

Preserved natural specimens have been collected for centuries for the study of natural history, human anatomy and the advancement of science. In the exhibition Defiant Specimens, the artworks of Susan Feindel and Cindy Stelmackowich strive to expand the materiality and visualization of scientific specimens. There is a special attention to wonder, speculation, vulnerability and the limits of human understanding and expression in their works. They blend images and ideas from nature, natural habitats, and old dictionaries and scientific textbooks that cross mediums and flip between the tangible and implied.

Cindy Stelmackowich

Cindy Stelmackowich, Casted #2 (detail), paper, gauze, plaster bandages, string, metal, 11″ x 7″ x 5″

Interview of Vasia Hatzi_Interalia Magazine (Issue 25 – June 2016) by Richard Bright

“Hybrid Thinking from the Heart”

Delighted to be interviewed by Richard Bright and the Interalia Magazine, Issue 25 – June 2016 entitled “The Art in HeArt”.

The aim of the new issue of Interalia Magazine “The Art in HeArt” is to explore the work of artists that are inspired by the human heart through articles and exclusive interviews. Joining forces, MEDinART artists, medical illustrators and scientists, discuss the relationship between cardiology and art.

My special thanks to Richard Bright, Director and Editor-in-Chief of Interalia Magazine and founder of The Interalia Center, for this interview.
