I enter the unknown with each new piece of art to honor the fragility of human existence. My work at first might seem too aggressive, but take a closer look and there is optimism too – optimism of being alive in our own complex state of being.

Showing the underlying processes of the human body is in invigorating practice. It makes me feel more connected to our humanness, yet this also creates alienation and anxiety. We are in a fragile state, we spin around the earth rapidly and don’t feel it, while the earth revolves around the sun, creating the seasons. And we are all just indifferent specs in this whole cosmos.

One part of my art that is always optimistic though, is how I create every painting: with a lot of preparation, a lot of discipline and determination, and beautiful painting techniques.

My ultimate goal is to move you and make you think differently about your own composition.

Billy Reynolds' work always tries to honor the fragility of human existence. Showing the underlying process of the human body is an invigorating process. After receiving his Masters degree in painting from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2004, Billy moved to Los Angeles, California, where he felt his edgier art would be a better fit. Recently his work has been shown in La Luz De Jesus Gallery's Group Show "Laluzapalooz 2013", "Dissecting Art, Intersecting Anatomy", a group show specific to anatomy in Chicago, a two-person show in Chinatown, and was shortlisted for the London International Creative Competition. He has had several solo shows in Los Angeles, and been a part of group shows in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Florida, and a group show at the Royal College of Art in London.
